Here's the petition asking Bill DeBlasio to resign as Mayor. I don't see why you have to be from New York to sign it. As long as you believe in the restoration of order you should want this man to step down and go teach at a university or do basket-weaving seminars.
I think the minimum 2 patrol cars on every call policy the NYPD itself immediately implemented following the assassination of the two officers explains more eloquently than anything else could why in a city like NYC you want as many live cops as possible on duty - preferably twice as many as DeBlasio's odious demagoguing has now left New Yorkers with.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend the ESPN "30 for 30" short film on the third Ali-Norton fight. Yeah, it's about the fight, but much of the film deals with the NYPD strike at the time -- which resulted in people being robbed by mobs of street thugs as they went into and out of Yankee Stadium.
ReplyDeleteHope we're not headed for a repeat of that situation, but something's gotta give between NYPD and the mayor for that to be avoided, IMO.
The problem with "split the difference" diplomacy in these cases is that on the one side you have Order and on the other side you have Chaos. Chaos is not a good loser.
